Glossary
The terms that appear across this catalogue, defined once.
Supply and handling
- LyophilisedFreeze-dried under vacuum. The standard form for peptide supply, because dry peptide is far more stable than peptide in solution.
- KitTen vials of the same compound and strength, which is how our supplier packs and prices them.
- Bacteriostatic waterWater for injection with 0.9%% benzyl alcohol as a preservative.
- ReconstitutionTaking a lyophilised powder into solution.
- AliquotA measured portion of a solution, separated so the rest is not repeatedly disturbed.
Identity
- CAS numberA registry identifier for a specific substance, assigned by the Chemical Abstracts Service.
- InChIKeyA fixed-length hash of a structure, used to match the same molecule between databases.
- Molar massThe mass of one mole. For a salt it depends on the counter-ion, which is why we state which form a figure refers to.
- INCI nameThe standard ingredient name used on cosmetic labelling.
- IUInternational unit. A measure of biological activity, not of mass, and not convertible to mass without a potency figure.
Structure and sequence
- ResidueOne amino acid within a peptide chain.
- FragmentPart of a larger natural peptide or protein. A fragment is not the parent molecule, however the two are marketed.
- AnalogueA modified version of a natural molecule, usually altered to resist breakdown or change receptor selectivity.
- AcylationAttaching a fatty acid chain so the molecule binds albumin in circulation, which extends its half-life.
- Retro-inversoA peptide with the sequence reversed and built from D-amino acids, which makes it resistant to proteases.
- DACDrug affinity complex. A group that bonds covalently to albumin, taking a half-life from minutes to days.
Commerce
- Importer of recordThe party responsible to customs for an import. On our orders, that is you.
- Volume tierA discount band set by the total kits in an order, counted across every compound. The ladder.
- Certificate of analysisA laboratory report on a specific lot. How to read one.
